What are resources?

Resources are anything that causes a pleasant feeling or a sense of safety. It can be a person, place, memory, experience, action or personal quality.  They can also be physical for example a limb gives us a pleasant feeling.

How can we use them?

Awareness of a resource, thinking of it and focusing on the sensations in the body as we think of it is the key to beginning the process of relaxation and calm. Thinking of a resource causes us to feel a change and this is an important beginning stage in the process of starting to retrieve self-regulation.

Where can we find resources?

Resources are in our past, our present, and our future. They can be within us such as our beliefs or our intelligence or outside of us such as a friends, places and family.

Our body is a resource that is always with us all we need to do is pay attention.

Many types of therapy believe in the use resources and some even use it as a coping strategy. In Israel Professor Mooli Lahad developed the BASIC PH model and in the United States Peter Levine developed Somatic Experiencing using Resources as a major part of his approach. Gina Ross has brought this model to Israel and uses it in her Ross Model.
